Benefits of Ductless A/C Systems
Ductless cooling systems are the perfect alternative to bulky window A/C units without springing for complete ducted central air. Often called “mini-splits”, these systems are composed of an outdoor unit and one or more indoor units that work together to cool your entire home or selected rooms efficiently.
- Zoned cooling saves you energy and money
- Since no ductwork is required, installation is quick and easy
- Benefit from improved indoor air quality with newer equipment
- Some systems can double as a supplemental heating source in winter to help offset fuel bills!
How does a mini split (ductless) system work
Ductless air conditioning systems are often referred to as mini-split systems. As the name would imply, the system is split into two main components, the outdoor condensing unit, and the indoor evaporator unit. The indoor evaporator unit is generally a wall hung unit, however they are available as floor mounts models as well as ceiling mounted models. They include a built-in air filter, and also feature extremely quiet, squirrel cage type blower assemblies. Most of the available units now feature heat pump mode for seasonal heating as well as cooling modes. All of these units feature wireless remote controls, some of which can be operated remotely over a Wi-Fi connection. Some models are also designed to accommodate multi-zone evaporators, utilizing a single condensing unit outdoors.
