This timeline information is provided to give a rough time estimate of how long a heating oil to propane conversion would take to complete. Obviously, there is a lot of steps to complete, and these types of jobs have a lot of compliance requirements. Depending on the complexity of the job, in the time of the year your job may be completed much more quickly than the timeline outlined below, and in some rare cases the job may take longer.
-
Stage One
- Job estimates and proposal are provided and approved
- Heating oil automatic delivery will be stopped and tank should be run down to a minimal level
- Engineering will be done to determine the LP tank size and location.
-
Stage Two
- All permits for building, Fire Marshall, zoning, health and electrical will be applied for including, tank, heating system, etc.
- Scheduling for tank placement will be done
- Tanks may be buried or above ground, either may require excavation for buried piping
-
Stage Three
- Tanks will be delivered and set in place
- Propane lines will be piped and run the required locations.
- All propane lines will be pressure tested and inspected by the town official.
- Branch lines will be stubbed out for future applications (cooking, cloths drying, gas logs, etc)
-
Stage Four
- Removal of the oil boiler and all piping will be scheduled, usually 1 day
- Installation of the propane boiler will commence
- There are times that the propane boiler can be mounted on an outside wall, or we fabricate a wall to hang it on that is not at the oil boiler. If possible, we like to mount the LP boiler, vent it, and start the near-boiler piping while the oil unit is still operable.
- If the conversion is a warm air changeover, the propane line is in and tested before the furnace changeout.
-
Stage Five
- Oil tank will be drained, and any remaining oil disposed of.
- The oil tank will then be removed and disposed of.
